New Results Gym

Just joined the new Results Gym. They are offering tours of the site and are selling charter memberships at a discounted rate. Should be nice- if anyone is interested the info from the email is below.

The new Results Gym at 5th & K St., NW in the City Vista development is set to open in September. We are having a pre-opening sale with charter memberships available for those who commit before the club opens.

Right now we are under the first 300 members and have 3 different options. They are all month to month and are guaranteed through January 2010.

City Vista only: $0 enrollment/ $70 per month

City Vista/Dupont/Farragut North: $0 enrollment/ $75 per month

City Vista/Dupont/Farragut North/Capitol Hill: $0 enrollment/ $80 per month

These rates will incrementally increase once we reach 300 members so the sooner folks commit, the better. The retail price of membership once the gym opens will be $299 enrollment and $87 or $97/month.

You have the option of starting now and using our other locations until City Vista opens or freezing your membership until the new club is open.

You can get started over the phone or at our Sales Office at 445 K St., NW. The phone number is 202.234.5678 x4.

Red Light Camera at NY and 5th?

Just a thought.  I wonder if we should encourage DDOT to install a red light camera at NY and 5th?  With the increase in pedestrian traffic from north of New York Avenue to the new retail at City Vista, that intersection is an accident waiting to happen.  My partner and I walked down to the new hardware store on Saturday morning and were almost run over by a drive not paying attention to the stoplight on NY Avenue.  If they know there is a camera there, maybe some will slow down or at least pay better attention to the light changing.  Thoughts?

Priorities

I know I read too many blogs & sometimes I come across things that make my blood boil and/or cause me to say WHAAA?  So here are a few choice items from this election season with the exciting Ward 2 Council race hotter than today's code red sweltering nastiness:

Are they organic & pesticide free?

"We have given out over 150 free tickets to some high quality women. Please come have some drinks, food, and support Jack."

-- Bo Blair, owner of members-only restaurant/bar the Rookery, in an e-mail asking patrons to turn out for a fundraiser last night for D.C. Council member Jack Evans. "High quality women"? (Or is he just as obsessed with finding a nice girlfriend for Jack as we are?) Blair says he means "friends of ours that are well-educated, attractive, intelligent, social and sweet."

I've got one word - GROSS

We dont investigate the common shootings?

DCist reports - At approximately 2 a.m. on Thursday, 18-year-old Derrick Green was found shot in the head in an alley behind the 1300 block of Vermont Ave.

"It's a relatively safe part of town," [Jack Evans] said. "Haven't had a homicide there in a long, long time -- or even shootings or anything. So it's unusual, that's why we're investigating it."

(Si sputters incoherently at that one)

More ranting about poor planning in Shaw courtesy of OffSeventh with a little WTF action regarding the latest in a long line of ballpark shenanigans.  Catania wants to whaaa?

And the gravy...sorry this is semi old news but for those of you wondering how that Ward 2 Democrats endorsement meeting on 6/26 went....Well they have no website so i cant link them.  I'll just link the media hits.  Lets see the GW Hatchet had a brief mention.  DC Wire has a brief mention - more details emerge in the comments.  hmm thats about it.  Oh no wait! The Dupont Current (page 5) comes through nicely (first page).  Basicly this meeting was not publicized at all aside from what I posted and believe me, I looked.  I was surprised, as the Ward 2 Dems were funded to the tune of about 30k not too long ago when Jack Pac was dissolved after the travel hoopla.  Certainly they could've afforded a basic website? a few flyers? a poster? Well they got a little help anyway.  And not just from me...The meeting was filled with seniors & union members bussed in by Jack Evans.  And I did notice the giant trash bags filled with chicken dinners.  The rest of us got water.  I couldn't help but draw the H.R Crawford comparison.  Anyhoo, the vote tally was 105 Evans - 67 Silverman which is a 61%-39% breakdown.  Evans gave another variation on the stump speech I have heard a bjillion times now over the years.  Its still time to fix the schools!  Phil Pannell gave the best speech - I love that guy.  Cary Silverman was fiery.

One more tidbit...in the midst of bitching about the AWFUL DC City Council website...I mean seriously its so bad its worthy of investigation!!!  copyright 1997!  My mind drifted to another bad site, Jack Evans campaign website.  And before you click, turn down the brightness on your screen.  He wants to "Make our Neighborhoods More Safe" !!!  Sigh.  Even though green has been done before, Cary Silverman definitely has the right idea with design, palette and content.  But dont take it from me, the Georgetown Voice is a bit irritated with Jack's site too.

I hope you all found this post slightly hilarious :)

Oh P.S. after all of our begging & bitching, Shotspotter is now operational in PSA 308.  Jack Evans sent out a press release & it has been verified by MPD brass.  A Big thank you to everyone who made this happen.  Its not magic, but it will help.  Have a safe and wonderful weekend.  Go see some FRINGE.

ADAM CLAMPITT ENDORSES MICHAEL BROWN

ron brown's kid and Fox news talking head, michael brown was endorsed by adam clampitt today.  clampitt, an independent was running for one of the two at-large council seats set aside for non democrats.  the republican carol schwartz currently serves in one of those positions.  the other is held currently by kwame brown.

in the past, michael brown ran for mayor as a democrat and at the last minute switched to back linda cropp for mayor in the democrat primary.  i  understand mr brown works for the same law firm that jack evans works for full time, patton boggs.  correct me if i'm wrong in any of this and thanks in advance for correcting me.  :-)

According to someone paying close attention to Council discussions today, Councilmembers Graham, Mendelson and Bowser need a little encouragement to support the CityMarket at O TIF which is apparently going to a vote later this afternoon.

Please give their offices a call. Mendelson, as at at-Large Councilmember does should represent Shaw as well.

Councilmember Phil Mendelson (202) 724-8064

Councilmember Jim Graham (202) 724-8181
