Such an unecessary spectacle. What on earth is the big deal about taping the meetings? It helps those who are unable to come be informed. Why are they so against communication? Who has the power to enforce the laws & regulations that govern the ANC?

You know what the problem is.....

They don't want to be shown for what they are. Plain and simple.

They move the meetings around and hold them on private property to avoid being accountable for their actions.

Jack Evans should be ashamed of himself for allowing this to continue.

I plan on confronting the Mayor about this at my ANC1B meeting tonight.

Yes, even though I do not live in ANC2C, it is just 2 blocks to the south of me and this affects my quality of live in my immediate neighborhood.

Shall we do something neighbors? Take collective action some how? Whether its calling, emailing, or both? This is such an outrage!

I spoke with Windy Rahim from Jack Evan's office today. She informs me that
under the law, neither Jack, nor the Council, nor Gottlieb Simon, nor
the mayor has any authority to do anything about our ANC situation
unless our elected commissioners commit a felony. Other than that,
our only recourse is at the ballot box or through a recall.

I wonder if it isn't time to talk about a recall effort. That may be our only recourse.

I just called Councilman Evans' office and spoke to Ms. Wendy Rahim. I merely stated that I'm very concerned about how the ANC meetings have been going and I'm frustrated that two meetings in a row have been cancelled. I merely asked to leave my name, address and my message for Mr. Evans' consumption. Ms. Rahim immediately informed me that DC law precludes Mr. Evans and the City Council for taking action or applying pressure upon other elected officials. It seems Mr. Evans does not want to act and will find technicalities of city ordinances to stall.

I've worked for elected officials before. Nothing would prevent one elected official from providing advise or expressing his/her opinion about certain subjects to another elected official. Clearly Mr. Evans, as our councilman, would rather side with one faction and ignore another part of his constituency. I didn't ask him to take sides, but merely asked him to note my concerns and take appropriate action to facilitate progress in Shaw should the opportunity be available. He is obviously not willing to do even that.

So, basically the ANC has no accountability and Evans has no authority? There is no code of conduct, ethics or anything? Great system. Sounds like a loop hole. Or more than likely the system was distinctively designed to function in this manner. I think it was the Top Dawg himself (Fenty) who said, "everyone should be held accountable." Sounds like a chance to put the old campaign slogan to work.

What Jack can do is attend one of the next ANC meetings and at that meeting stand up to voice the concerns of many of his Ward 2 constituents that we would like to end the ridiculous video tape controversy. Video taping, or any other means of recording and publishing community meeting information to the widest possible public audience, must be allowed as long as in and of itself itself that recording doesn't obstruct meetings. These meetings must also not be held in institutions owned by private orgtanizations.

The Commission must focus on the business of the community and stop trippin' over this nonsense. I'm glad there were children present to see how ridiculous some adults behave and that their father spoke out against such foolishness.

It's real simple, folks. Barbara Curtis got in last fall by the skin of her teeth. We need to field a candidate and defeat her in 2008. Nothing will change until we have a working majority of reasonable people on the Commission. Nothing.

Once that happens, maybe Jack will finally wake up and realize that his pal Leroy is really and truly finished. It's a cliche, but it's true: if the people lead, the leaders will follow.

i want to publicly thank Brenda Hall, Property Manager of The United House of
Prayer for ALL people who gave permission to have the ANC meeting videotaped so
that those of us who couldn't make it could be better informed citizens.

i also want to thank Officer Hardy Mervillus of the MPD who sought and received
approval of the UHOP Property Manager to tape the PSA 308 meeting.
